Learn more about the different types of yoga practices I am offering!
Hatha
The translation and interpretation of the word hatha in Sanskrit is varied: some sources say it is a combination of the word “ha” for sun and “tha” for moon, hinting at balancing solar and lunar energies, the active and the passive energies within you. It also is sometimes translated as “force” or “with strength” – so expect to work a sweat and expend some energy.
The asanas (poses) are usually held for 5-7 breaths, so this is a good opportunity to tune into the sensations in your body, or what comes up in your mind as you are holding a challenging pose.
Restore
This class type is designed to access rest and relaxation – offering an opportunity to let yourself recover from the stress of everyday life. The poses are accessible, easy to execute and focus on calm and cozy. You can expect to slow down both your body and your mind. Grab a blanket and a pillow, maybe your yoga blocks if you have some and enjoy!
Yin
Yin Yoga is a challenge for a lot of people that grew up in our productivity driven culture. Though it can look very similar to restore yoga, it help us find the edge of sensation without using too much effort. Yin offers the opportunity to examine what is going on in your tissues and your mind, consciously experiencing what is happening in the moment. The poses are held for a long time in order to allow your system to slow down.
